little. yellow. sticker.

I realized on the weekend that I have somehow managed to do something right. Okay, yes I do a lot of somethings right but this is a big one and it sets my heart to a warm thump and leaves me realizing that if I never do anything else in life, I have somehow managed with the big stuff, the important stuff, the raising of child stuff. When my aidenator went off to Calgary, all grown up like in with his little yellow sticker identifing him as an unaccompanied kid, to Calgary for the weekend, I sent with him $25.00 spending money. I had every expectation that he would come back on Sunday broke but happy. While there he did tons of cool stuff which included but is not limited to going to the zoo, going to Kananaskis, skating and a playstation extravaganza. Once he started talking about his trip, the excitement came pouring out though he was oh so very cool when we picked him up at the bus (head shake, yeah, the trip was fine). When, however, he didn't want to take off the little yellow sticker, I knew he was still my guy and that he was feeling all grown up and he didn't want to let that feeling go. eeeeeee ... he's so cool. Anyway, He came back happy AND with half of the money unspent. Wow, again very cool. Duke and I drove him to his dad's and we were talking, admiring his new black and chrome fridge and the like when my wonderful little Aidenator pulls out of his bag two gifts, one for his dad and d and one for duke and I. It tears up a mother's eyes (well this mother's eyes anyway) to realize that her nine year old son is not only responsible and loving but also unselfish and giving. I've said it before and I'll say it again ... I am the luckiest mom ever! Sidenote: I have drinken too much strongbow, two nights in a row and I really have to stop the afterwork go for a coffee, make that a strongbow scenario ... and my two cohorts in this (boys you know who you are) have to help in this endeavour 'cause coffee and mmmmm yogurt smoothies are even better than strongbow to go with the great conversation, yes? Well, at the very least better to wake up to. That said, tonight, I am going to spend some quality time at home 'cause the laundry is piling up and the dishes are beginning to smell and I need a day of rest ...
